Mumbai Indians have announced the signing of Tamil Nadu fast bowler Sandeep Warrier as a replacement for Jasprit Bumrah for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season. Bumrah was ruled out of the IPL due to a back injury, which has kept him out of action since September 2022. Rishabh Pant, the captain of Delhi Capitals, will also be sidelined due to injuries sustained in a car crash. Abhishek Porel, a Bengal wicketkeeper-batter, has been named as his replacement.
Warrier, who has played for India, has played 68 T20 matches and taken 62 wickets. He was previously part of the Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore teams, and he was in good form in the Ranji Trophy 2022-23 season, taking 27 wickets in just six matches. Porel, on the other hand, has played in 16 First-Class matches, three List A games, and three T20s for Bengal, with 695 runs at a 30.21 average and six half-centuries.
While Porel will join Delhi Capitals for INR 20 Lakh, Mumbai Indians have signed Sandeep Warrier for INR 50 Lakh. These new signings bring fresh hope and excitement for the teams as they prepare for the IPL 2023 season.
